Civils and Highways

Road Construction and Highway Civils

Our roads, access works and highway civils support developments and infrastructure projects where access, drainage, services, inspections and adoption requirements need to line up.

Roads and access works

Road and access works need close control as the work progresses, especially where levels, drainage, road connections and inspections affect the next stage of the site.

Section 38 and Section 278 works

For Section 38 and Section 278 schemes, we carry out the physical civils in line with the highway authority’s inspection and adoption requirements.

Drainage and infrastructure

Our road construction work covers gullies, carrier drains, culverts, service crossings, ducting and connections to the wider site drainage alongside the roads and access works.

FAQs

What do Section 278 works involve? +

Where a development alters or connects to the existing highway, the Section 278 agreement sets the highway work required. We deliver the civils in our appointment from the approved information.

What is the difference between Section 38 and Section 278 works? +

Section 38 generally covers the adoption of new roads built as part of a development, while Section 278 covers agreed work to the existing public highway. The scheme and highway authority set the responsibilities and approval route.

What information helps you price road and access works? +

We use the road and drainage information, levels, pavement build-up, kerb and surfacing specifications, phasing, access constraints and any Section 38 or Section 278 requirements.
